In a gravity defying video unveiled at the Burj Khalifa last night, Yves ‘Jetman‘ Rossy and his protégée Vince Reffet, who became only the second person in the world to earn the distinction of flying with the innovative Jetman wing, soared over Dubai’s skyline past iconic sites such as the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah and the desert on a jet-engine powered carbon fibre wing strapped to their backs.
Following the record-setting flight, the aviators now plan to further develop the next generation Jetman wing with the support of XDubai to implement technological changes to advance their dream for human fight.
Jetman Dubai will also be provided with exclusive access to facilities at Skydive Dubai.
“Establishing our headquarters in Dubai gives us access to world-class facilities including Skydive Dubai which will enable us to take Jetman Dubai and the development of our new wing to its next stage,” said Rossy,a former Swiss fighter pilot.
Reffet, 30, a skydiver from France, added: “I believe that if you dream big and if you love what you do everything is possible. The Jetman wing is the next level of human flight and I’m so excited to be a part of it, but this is just the beginning, the future is going to be insane.”
The collaboration is part of Dubai’s vision to be recognised as the action sports capital of the world.
Ismaeil Al Hashmi, managing director of XDubai said: “Jetman Dubai does not only put these two inspiring individuals on the international aviation map, but also begins a new phase for the emirate of Dubai as it becomes home to two world-class action sport athletes.”
Over the past decade, the Jetman journey has seen the development of more than 15 prototypes of the Jetman wing. In December 2014, Rossy also participated over Dubai’s desert with Hungarian aerobatic champion Zoltan Veres.
In 2004, Rossy became the first man in history of aviation to fly with a jet-propelled wing.
