Bollywood star Salman Khan, who was last week found guilty of killing a homeless man while driving under the influence of alcohol, will perform at a B-Town awards function in Dubai later this month, event organisers have confirmed.
The 49-year-old actor was sentenced to five years in prison by a Mumbai sessions court in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The sentence was suspended by the Bombay High Court last week.
A spokesperson for the first Arab Indo Bollywood Awards (AIBA) said in a statement: “Salman Khan will attend and perform at the awards night that takes place on the May 29, 2015, at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai”.
Khan, one of India’s highest paid celebrities, is estimated to have nearly $31 million riding on him in unfinished film projects. He has resumed filming until a court rules over the next appeal.
The high court reportedly asked the actor to surrender his passport while announcing that he would be allowed to travel abroad based on the court’s discretion, according to Indian media reports.
The AIBA, organised by Benchmark in association with Al Bustan Group, is said to be first of its kind and will see more than 150 Bollywood stars in Dubai.
In addition to Salman Khan, the event will be hosted by popular Indian producer-director Karan Johar and Manish Paul and have more than four hours of celebrity interaction, entertainment and performances from other popular stars, including Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra, Neha Dhupia and Kanika Kapoor.
Ticket sales have begun with great response from fans waiting to see Khan and other stars, organisers said.
Tickets can be purchased across UAE Exchange outlets in the UAE as well as online at aibagulf.com
