South Indian actor Leena Maria Paul, her partner Sekar Chandrashekhar and four others have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police for allegedly cheating people by promising them 300 per cent returns on their investments in their firm.
Reportedly, falling lure to the lavish lifestyle Leena and Sekar showed, over 1,000 people had invested in their Ponzi firm.
Leena Maria Paul has even acted in Bollywood movie Madras Cafe. She along with her live-in partner were arrested from their rented Goregaon apartment on Friday. Apparently, Delhi police had arrested the duo in May 2013 for allegedly cheating Canara Bank in Chennai by taking a loan of Rs 19 crore and then absconding.
From the duo, police have recovered 117 imported watches worth Rs 1,17,00,000; 12 mobile phones worth Rs 37,40,000 and Rs 3,50,000 cash. Authorities have even recovered nine cars, including foreign ones like Audi, Mercedes, Bentley, Maserati, worth Rs 5 crore. They also found a bike worth Rs 23 lakh at their house.
