Yes, you read that right. The RTA has announced plans to make Al Wasl and Jumeirah Beach Roads one way.
Al Wasl Road would flow in the direction of the Burj Al Arab, while Jumeirah Beach Road would go in the opposite direction, towards 2nd of December Road and Bur Dubai.
Each road would have four lanes moving in the same direction, which will hopefully cut down on the traffic headaches many of us have suffered in that area of town and make the area more pedestrian-friendly.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, revealed the major shake-up for Jumeirah, which was approved last year by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
It’s not clear when the plan will be rolled out, but it’s unlikely to be before the Dubai Canal is finished.
Other plans discussed by the RTA include reviewing three vital junctions of the Dubai Tram to improve safety and extending the Metro’s red line by 15km from Nakheel to the Expo 2020 site, which would add seven stations to the network.
