Last year, the reports on the amount of food wastage in Dubai took social media by storm. Thankfully, the UAE Food Bank Initiative happened, which is slowly but surely helping to eliminate the food loss from restaurants and hotels annually.
A Dubai Company Is Converting Leftover Food To Cost Effective Bio Fuel :
This time, however, Dubai Carbon has a new programme in the works to create revenue over left over food instead of it leading to financial losses. This sustainable technique will be done through the conversion of wet organic waste into biosolid fuels, according to Gulf News.
Wet waste will be converted to a fuel source and sold
Towards the end of March, Ivano Ivanelli (CEO of Dubai carbon) told Gulf News that “wet waste will be converted at local mini processing plants through a heated spinning technology that removes up to 60 per cent of the moisture and results in a fluff material that can be used a fuel source and sold on open markets.”
The newly converted waste can be sold for up to Dhs 2,000 annually
Not only will it help lessen financial loss of over Dhs 6,000 per year for garbage collection, it will also help minimise the waste that goes to landfill, downsizing the methane gas that is a product of the debilitation of food waste.
